HerdGrinalta Farms

Grinalta Farms has been breeding top quality Quarter Horses, Thoroughbreds and Warmblood Crosses for 35+ years. We have always studied, admired, and pursued top quality genetics of each breed. We have maintained both Quarter Horses and Thoroughbreds as well as have had much success crossbreeding them as well. In our pursuit of top genetics we have over the years owned some well bred and known stallions. Robin of Honor and Cohoes Native just to name a couple. We have had much success on the B Track Racing Curcuit where Robin himself was one of the top runners of his time winning over $22,000 in the early to mid 1980's. Other notiable runners that we raised were: Raise a Dancer and Go Robin Reed (daughter of Robin). We also had some success on the A curcuit as well.Illustration

The Burnt Spur bloodline was a huge part of our Quarter horses bloodline tree. Singing Spur was the matriarch mare in the Grinalta herd. These horses are fanastic. Powerful thick made horses, very intelligent and very quick and with athletic agility. Very low maintainance feet. These horses have performed well in any area....ranch horse, barrel or running. Raise A Dancer, Burnt Jet Bars, and Vunderbar Native represent these bloodlines.

In the last 10 years we recognized the Warmblood, hunter/jumper popularity and the increasing demand for these horses. The Quarter Horse and especially the Thoroughbred made a excellent cross breeding to the Warmblood bloodlines so we incorporated artifical insemination of a Warmblood stallion, Bajazzo and in search of a well bred stallion of our own, we were able to purchase Woso, a direct son of Wodan. The crossing of Woso on our harem of QH/TB mares have been very rewarding. We have sent many young horses to BC as well as throughout AB. In 2005, Woso was sold to Carrie Johnston of BC where he is experiencing a successful career in the performance arena.

At some point, all breeding programs come to a end or at least at a much reduced program. Rueben has bred top quality horses for a very long time and now at 72 yrs old and with a body that has broken down, (Dad will be going for knee and hip surgery in the next number of months) it is time to disperse of our herd. All is for sale by private treaty and we have lots of young prospects sired mainly by Woso.

horse right for your program.

We were also very fortunate to own a direct son of Raise A Native, Cohoes Native. This stallion has the conformation of a quarter horse and the stamina and heart of a Thoroughbred. He has bred very well with the quarter horses, thoroughbreds and most anything he has been bred to. Super speed, good disposition and athletic ability. Owners of offspring have reported they are the best horses they ever rode. They have proven to have lots of cow sense as well.

WOSO | Our Hanovarian Stallion

More recently we have purchased a Hanovarian stallion sired by Wodan (pictured at bottom right) named Woso. We are amazed by the growthfulness, power, soundness, confirmation, and smooth gate of this breed. We are crossing him with the foundation thoroughbred lines like Native Dancer, Nearco, Nazurallah, and Northern Dancer. The quarter horses are looking good exhibiting better bone, thicker walled hooves and a little taller with a smoother gait, while maintaining their muscling and attractive heads.

Contact Rueben to explore our selection of quarter horses, thoroughbreds, and warmblood crosses.

Singing Spur QH Mare

We have always been active in breeding horses for the ability to perform. Our Quarter horse mares are mainly bred around the Burnt Spur/ Parker's Trouble mare – "Singing Spur". These horses have worked wonders for us exhibiting exceptional sound hooves that never need trimming or shoeing. Good conformation with exceptional agility. Singing Spur's progeny include Raise A Dancer multiple stakes winner, and Burnt Jet Bars who has sired many winners on the barrel racing circuit. Horses from this bloodline have performed well at the race track, rodeo circuits, pleasure/reining or just exceptional ranch horses.
